District Profile

The mission of the Charyl Stockwell Academy District is to provide a safe and enriching place for children to grow from early childhood through adolescence, while providing those children with specific learning activities that allow each of them to meet and exceed academic requirements in preparation for success in college, career, and life.
Charyl Stockwell Academy District is a tuition-free public school district that:

provides a comprehensive K-12 educational program: the elementary school is located in Hartland and the middle school and high school secondary program is located in Brighton.

emphasizes the education of the whole child with consideration of the developmental characteristics of each age group.

delivers a curriculum that emphasizes higher level thinking skills and habits of mind; is integrative, exploratory and makes connections; and is academically rigorous.

facilitates a school culture and an instructional delivery model that is based on high expectations for each child’s ability to master new learning and achieve their greatest potential.

implements a continuous progress/mastery learning model in multi-age classrooms that allows students to move through the curriculum at their own pace, with the expectation of mastery of the designated Michigan Core Curriculum Standards and Benchmarks.

integrates components of the High Scope Early Elementary model for classroom organization and delivery in multi-age classrooms.

has a small student/teacher ratio in the classrooms.

developed Smart Character Choices, a school-wide comprehensive character education program that is being used in 20 schools across the State of Michigan.

offers a program for Academically Gifted students using the cluster model that is based on research based best practice in gifted education.

implements a Teacher Support Team (TST) system to prevent learning failure and provide special help to students with special needs. This system meets the legal requirements for the education of students with disabilities.

offers the Student Enrichment Program that provides before and after school programs such as licensed child care, athletics, and enrichment opportunities (music, Lego League, Tae Kwon Do, Math Pentathalon and Math Pentathalon games, Odyssey of the Mind, Chess Club, Japanese and more).

has an expanding athletic program for girls and boys ages 10 through high school and is a member of the Mid Michigan Independent Athletic Association.
